The Norwin School District Community Foundation would like to support environmental education through a new program that would give students interactive, hands-on experiences while they are on teacher-led tours of the Norwin Campus Trail. Imagine a teacher-led tour of the campus' woodland trails being enhanced with informational placards that identify key information about the habitat throughout the trail; student-generated Quick Response (QR) codes located along the trail; or orienteering materials to teach students an understanding of the basics of map and map-reading through exploring and navigating games on the trail. | Hillcrest Intermediate School students participate in an outdoor activity on the Norwin campus trail. |
| The program’s goal is to increase student achievement in the Pennsylvania Academic Standards in this subject area and to support STEM education in general, which is a major curricular initiative in the Norwin School District, across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the nation. Initially, the proposed program will provide lead teachers in grades 5 and 6 at Hillcrest Intermediate School with resources to present these innovative lessons in environmental education. | |
