MINIMUM GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from Norwin High School is based upon the successful completion of a minimum of 25.5 credits in Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 and demonstration of proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics. Because the Norwin School District curriculum is aligned with the Pennsylvania Academic Standards and Assessment Anchors, successful completion of the District’s academic requirements enable any Norwin student who has demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics to graduate from Norwin High School. The requirements are 25.5 credits, divided as follows:

The previously listed courses are the required courses necessary for graduation. Should a student fail any of these required courses, they must be repeated either in summer school, if available, or the following academic year in order for a student to remain on schedule to receive a Norwin High School Diploma. Students who take summer school courses will receive a passing grade (60%) on their transcript.

Graduation from Norwin High School will be based on the successful completion of 25.5 credits. The one additional credit will be awarded upon the completion of the 11th grade PSSA in writing, reading and mathematics. Each test will carry 1/3 credit weight.

                        Writing - .34    Reading - .33   Mathematics - .33      = 1 Credit

The District will assign a percentage grade to each PSSA score as follows:

                        Advanced         = 100% (A)

                        Proficient         =   91% (B)

                        Basic                =   81% (C)

                        Below Basic     =   69% (D)

These grades will appear on the students’ report cards and transcripts during the third term of the senior year. Students will have the opportunity to improve their scores by taking the PSSA re-test in grade 12. Students who are not proficient on their junior reading and/or math PSSA test will also be required to take the Building Reading and/or Mathematical Foundations II course(s) during their senior year.
