Dear Parent/Guardian,
As Director of Food & Nutrition Service, I would like to inform you of meal price changes based on new USDA guidelines and government regulations. Breakfast and lunch price changes for the 2012-2013 school year will be as follows:
| Breakfast: | |
All levels: | $1.25/daily |
| Lunch: | |
| Elementary: | $2.10/daily |
Intermediate/Middle: | $2.20/daily |
| High School: | $2.35/daily |
Information on the price of school breakfasts and lunches can always be found on the Norwin School District website www.norwinsd.org. Since good nutrition is so important for growing bodies and learning minds, we encourage your child to take part in the lunch and breakfast programs on a regular basis.
Menus are sent home monthly with your child, but are also included on the district website. Just click on "Departments", "Food & Nutrition Service" and then "Menus". You can rest assured that each lunch will contain at least one third of the recommended daily allowances of nutrients. We always strive to make our meals enticing and delicious so the students can become food-wise as well as book-wise.
The district currently uses a computer system to account for meal purchases and transactions. This system allows you to pay in advance for meals and other items then charge them against your child’s account. You may send your check, (no cash please) in an envelope to the homeroom teacher with your child’s first and last name on the envelope, or make on-line deposits with a credit card through Skyward Family Access. Checks should be made out to Norwin School District Food and Nutrition Service (or NSDFNS) and will serve as your receipt.
If you would like to apply for free or reduced price meals, fill out the application that will be sent home with your child on the first day of school or you can obtain an application from the district website. You may also fill out an application directly through the state’s “COMPASS” website through the Food & Nutrition Service page. An application must be filed yearly if you wish to apply for free and reduced priced meals. If the application is approved, your child will receive free or reduced meals for the remainder of the school year. There is no discrimination or overt identification of free or reduced students. All computer meal transactions are the same so please take advantage of the program if you feel you qualify.
In closing, I am always eager to hear any questions, comments, or suggestions you or your child may have concerning the school meal program. Please call the Department of Food & Nutrition Service any time, 724-861-3038. We look forward to serving your child and hope their cafeteria memories are always happy and healthy ones.
Sincerely,
Rod Stewart
