Cartesian Divers |

Directions: |
Cut the pipet
approximately 1 cm below the bulb. |
Hot glue the nut onto the
opening of the pipet. |
Carefully dip the pipet with nut into water. Squeeze out some of the air and let water
into the bulb. Leave some air in the
bulb so that it still floats. |
Fill the 2 liter bottle
with water. |
Place the Cartesian diver
(the pipet bulb/nut) into the bottle. |
Screw the cap onto the
bottle. |
Gently squeeze the bottle. The diver should descend when the bottle is
squeezed. And should return to the top
of the bottle when the pressure is released.
Make adjustments to the amount of water in the diver if this does not
occur. |

Bonus - 3
points for a diver, 6 points for a
diver and explanation |

Bring a completed diver
into Mrs. Spang. Make sure you can use
the concept of density to explain how the diver works. |
