Timothy J. Kotch, Sr., is Norwin School District’s Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education. He has a long track record of service to Norwin and has contributed substantial improvements to School District programs, services, and student achievement.

Mr. Kotch’s educational career began in rural South Carolina, where he taught math from 1989 to 1994. In 1993, he was awarded with the honor of being a Department of Energy teacher research associate at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory.

Mr. Kotch moved back to his alma mater, Norwin School District, in 1994, where he taught math at Norwin Middle School East until 1999. During the 1998-1999 school year, he was named Teacher of The Year at Norwin Middle School-East. He taught Mathematics and Computer Science at Norwin High School from 1999 through 2003, and during that time period he served as Math Department Chair.

Mr. Kotch was promoted to Assistant Principal at Norwin High School, a role he held from 2003 to 2011, and during a portion of that time, he also served as the District’s Coordinator of STEM Education. He became Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education at Hempfield School District in the 2011-12 school year, and then returned to Norwin in July 2013 to serve as High School principal. After serving as Norwin High School Principal for two years, Mr. Kotch was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education for Norwin School District beginning with the 2015-16 school year.

He served Active Duty in the United States Army from 1975-1981, and was honorably discharged in 1981. After serving in the United States Army, Mr. Kotch earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986. He earned his Secondary Mathematics Education Certification in 1989 from Seton Hill University. Mr. Kotch completed his Master of Education degree and Principal Certification from California University of Pennsylvania in 2003. He earned his Superintendent Letter of Eligibility from the University of Pittsburgh and is currently enrolled in the Doctoral Program at the University of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Kotch has authored numerous grants for Norwin, including many that brought Palm Pilots, Vernier science lab equipment, and graphing calculators to District students.

Mr. Kotch is a 1974 graduate of Norwin High School and continues to reside in the district with his wife, children and grandchildren.
