Summer Internship Program

Empowering Future Technology workers: Norwin School District’s Summer IT Internship Program

The Norwin School District’s Summer Information Technology Internship offers college students a dynamic, hands-on experience across multiple disciplines in the IT field. Spanning the summer months, this immersive program blends practical fieldwork with structured classroom instruction, preparing you for real-world technology challenges and careers.

You will begin by engaging directly with the district’s technology infrastructure. Tasks include:

  • Setting up and decommissioning iPads using JAMF
  • Running Ethernet data cabling, patch panel work, ethernet switch connections (VLANs)

The program’s academic component is equally robust. You will participate in 11 weeks of classroom instruction, over 30 hours of whiteboard instruction and Q&A, culminating in a capstone project where you will work with your team to design a complete network infrastructure. This includes planning the network cable plant, access control, surveillance cameras, PCs, virtual server infrastructure, and wireless access points. The last task builds the budget for the entire configuration.

The curriculum covers a wide range of topics:

  • SQL Server database management
  • Networking fundamentals - ethernet packet structure, TCP/UDP concepts
  • Data cabling standards - fiber/copper
  • Cybersecurity framework - NIST 2.0 Framework
  • Virtualization - VMware
  • Firewalls
  • EDR/XDR Cybersecurity Software
  • JAMF Mobile Device Manager (MDM)
  • Powershell
  • Network Services - DHCP/DNS/Active Directory/Azure Active Directory/Certificate Services

By combining technical training with real-world application, the Norwin School District’s IT internship will equip you with the skills, confidence, and experience needed to pursue careers in technology. It’s a transformative opportunity for aspiring IT professionals to learn, build, and lead in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

“This program is perfectly positioned for the college student between their sophomore and junior years.  We provide the tools and resources for college students to direct their education and next internship into the discipline that interests them.  This will better prepare them for their career.  We cover multiple disciplines in the field that they simply they won’t get anywhere else.”

“Norwin is the place for information technology and cybersecurity interns to learn the technology behind the theory.  We have them put our classroom material into practice.”

Join us next summer!
