A Program to Provide Students with Hands-On Experiences in Ecology and Environmental Education
The Norwin School District Community Foundation would like to support environmental education through a new program that would give students interactive, hands-on experiences while they are on teacher-led tours of the Norwin Campus Trail.

Imagine a teacher-led tour of the campus' woodland trails being enhanced with
informational placards that identify key information about the habitat throughout the trail; student-generated Quick Response (QR) codes located along the trail; or orienteering materials to teach students an understanding of the basics of map and map-reading through exploring and navigating games on the trail.

The program’s goal is to increase student achievement in the Pennsylvania Academic Standards in this subject area and to support STEM education in general, which is a major curricular initiative in the Norwin School District, across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the nation. Initially, the proposed program will provide lead teachers in grades 5 and 6 at Hillcrest Intermediate School with resources to present these innovative lessons in environmental education.
