The goats that successfully cleared away thick weeds from the steep hillside behind Knights Stadium in 2019 have returned to Norwin for an encore performance.
The goats are back at Norwin this summer, eating weeds from the hillside behind the Knights Stadium scoreboard. A second potential mission for them may be to clear an overgrown area near a retention pond by Hahntown Elementary School.
Norwin and many other organizations have discovered the advantages of using goats for landscape maintenance where rough terrain exists. It is a cost-effective practice that doesn’t jeopardize employee safety and, because herbicides are not used, it is environmentally friendly.
Once again, local company Nuisance Wildlife Solutions is providing the goats.
Norwin's use of the goats was considered an innovative practice and was recognized in the Pennsylvania School Boards Association's Daily EDdition statewide email, as well as in the American Association of School Administrators' School Administrator magazine.
