Science Alumni Days

The Norwin School District celebrated the 16th Annual Science Alumni Days (ScAluDa) on Thursday, December 21 and Friday, December 22, 2023. The event spanned three buildings and engaged over 2000 students from grades 5 to 12, providing them with the opportunity to interact with alumni and explore the vast world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers.

This year's Science Alumni Days featured events across Hillcrest Intermediate, the Middle School, and the High School. Students were able to connect with both current and former students, participating in a range of STEM-related seminars and competitions. The program aimed to shed light on various STEM fields, presenting them in a positive and achievable manner.

On Friday, December 22nd, nearly 4 dozen STEM alumni, including students and professionals currently working in the field, returned to the high school. Nineteen different science, math, and technology education teachers hosted seminars covering diverse topics such as engineering, pharmacy, college survival, nursing, environmental science, and scientific research.

The Science Alumni Days at Norwin School District have steadily grown over the past decade, becoming a two-day immersive experience that involves alumni presenting to students during their science periods throughout the day. The event not only showcases the achievements of Norwin graduates but also inspires current students to consider pursuing careers in STEM fields.

The conversations between students and alumni hold special significance as students realize that the presenters were once in the same desks they occupy today. Alumni from various backgrounds are encouraged to participate, emphasizing that STEM careers extend beyond traditional four-year degrees or graduate school. The department eagerly welcomes alumni who have pursued exciting careers through 2-year programs, trade schools, the military, and more.

Science Alumni Days continues to play a crucial role in inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals and fostering a strong sense of community within the Norwin family. Norwin School District expresses gratitude to all the current and former students who contributed their energy and talents to help make the 16th Annual Science Alumni Days a success.
