Position Overview:
The School Police Officer (SPO) for the Norwin School District is responsible for ensuring a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role includes conducting routine patrols, responding to incidents, enforcing applicable laws and district policies, and collaborating with administrators on safety planning and emergency response. The SPO serves as a visible and approachable presence in schools, fostering positive relationships with students and staff while promoting a culture of respect, responsibility, and safety, and working closely with local law enforcement to support the overall well-being of the school community.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field is preferred.
- Must be a certified police officer or have the ability to obtain certification as a School Police Officer (SPO).
- Weapons Proficiency Qualifications and Current Certification.
- Experience in law enforcement, school safety, or working with youth is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with students, staff, and the community.
- Ability to handle stressful and sensitive situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and relevant legal regulations.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Pre-employment drug testing will be required.

Paraprofessionals
Permanent and extended/long-term substitute paraprofessional positions are available throughout the year in Learning Support, Life Skills, Autistic Support, Emotional Support, and one-on-one student paraprofessionals.
Paraprofessional Pay Rates:
- Permanent/full-time Certified (Teacher Certified) - $21.95/hour
- Permanent/full-time Emergency Certified - $20.70/hour
- Permanent/full-time Non-Certified - $17.35/hour
- Substitute Certified (Teacher Certified) - $16.35/hour
- Substitute Emergency Certified * - $15.30/hour
- Substitute Non-Certified - $13.30/hour
* To be eligible for "Emergency Certification," you must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree
